The main reasons you'd want to get this case is for the ability to dock your iPhone while keeping the case on (an unfortunate rarity with cases) and for the unmatched drop protection accomplished by the larger than average rubber case which even extends slightly past the screen of the iPhone in case you drop it face down. Also, the design of the case makes it difficult to reach the silence switch, use the home button, and touch the edges of the screen because the case sticks out so much. Toughskin gives you pretty good confidence that your expensive toy is going to be protected, and the design is comfortable and easy to grip. The only downsides worth mentioning is that the belt clip is nice enough, but off-center in a horizontal orientation, and the case is the bulkiest I've seen. Of course, the bulk is sort of the point, since it gives better protection than other cases, but be aware of the size if you like a smaller style. You get used to it, though.Lastly, while this case provides the best-seeming drop protection of any case I've seen, it does nothing about scratch protection for your screen, so make sure you pick up a screen protector, too.In summary, I think this is one of the best iPhone 3G/3GS cases out there. The drop protection is the best, it comes with a belt clip capable of harnessing the bulky case, and I think it's definitely worth the extra few dollars you'd pay over competing products.
I assume it's for "protection", but it looks horrible, snaggs on everything (thereby INCREASING the risk of damage), and with such a loose rubber skin makes pulling the phone out more difficult than it should be.It is hard to imagine more ways in which this phone case could have been a failure. 4) Unlike the 2g holster, the 3g holster BLOCKS the docking port, so you can not charge while in the holster (not a big deal for some, but big for me) 5) The rubber case is so loose, the holster often slides under it at various points (like the docking port), preventing a good lock into the holster.
This was the BEST CASE EVER, hands down.So when I upgraded to 3g, I didn't comparison shop, I just bought this speck case.I do not know how this could be made by the same people. I went through 10 cases for my iPhone 2g before I found the Speck Armor case and holster.
The same is true for some docks (like portable ones for the car) which can't reach the phone. 1) The rubber is so think the phone is unwieldy (it's larger than the 2g phone in it's case) 2) The case is not snug (fingers, coins, and other material easily slip into it.
3) The rubber is so thick, some headphone jacks can't reach the headphone port. 6) They made the side clips on the holster RIDICULOUSLY large.
I am so disappointed.
Fits great and is comfortable to hold. All the buttons line up well for easy use.
Hey, I have this product and I definitly think its tops, as do many of the other people here. I have one quick recomondentation though for anyone having a problem with it being to grabby and hard to pull out of pockets. A quick trip to your local auto parts store and pick up a can of clear coat spray paing, about 2.00, and give the case 2, light coats.let it dry and put the phone back in.boom, all the massive protection without the anyoying pulling it out of the pocket problem. Props speck, they make awesome products
This is an excellent case for the iPhone. I do find it easy to snag the case on chair arms and other obstructions, but it hasn't broken, and is no more trouble than other cell phone clips I've used. The screen and controls are easily used, and I've already dropped the phone a couple of times with no damage. A few screen controls near the edges are a bit hard to reach with wide fingers.I also use the belt clip (the rubber case does not slip into pockets easily). One warning- the case tends to muffle the phone ringer when its set on "vibrate". I've missed a few calls.
